  Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), a top tech and computer science institution in the US, recently announced a cyberattack where hackers stole personal information from over 7,300 people. The breach compromised data of current/former students, employees, applicants, and contractors. CMU quickly detected and secured the system, engaging law enforcement. While no evidence of fraud or misuse was found, the university is offering credit monitoring services through Experian. Cyberattacks on educational institutions globally have been increasing, with multiple universities targeted in December 2023, including those in Canada, Austria, Lithuania, and Australia.
